Project Description

Soulmate vice-Presidential blue relic

Dirty sounds from this gorgeous Soulmate.

The body is abaci, the neck is maple and the fingerboard zizicote. Ziricote is very similar to rosewood in sound, but more attractive to the eye. The pickup is Aguilar.

I have made this bass as 3 of 3 of a series of 3 identical basses. All materials used are the same, except for body wood. The reason is that I wanted to experiment with lighter woods for the body and then be able to determine in what way body wood influences the sound. This will help me to advise customers in wood choice. We have made a cool video with Glenn Gaddum jr to demo these 3 basses.

This particular bass has an abachi body.  This is lightest of the 3. It weighs only 3.3 kg. Abachi is opposite to cedar in sound (the Evening Orchid one). It accentuates the mid range. It sounds dirty, barky, old, nasty, all in a good way.

The color is a mix between Presidential Blue (a Mustang color) and Silver Mist (Buick GS). I call it vice-Presidential blue, because it’s a little lighter than the real Presidential Blue. It has a mild relic finish.
