Soulmate Evening Orchid relic
Airy P sounds from this gorgeous Soulmate.
The body is cedar, the neck is maple and the fingerboard zizicote. Ziricote is very similar to rosewood in sound, but more attractive to the eye. The pickup is Aguilar.
I have made this bass as 2 of 3 of a series of 3 identical basses. All materials used are the same, except for body wood. The reason is that I wanted to experiment with lighter woods for the body and then be able to determine in what way body wood influences the sound. This will help me to advise customers in wood choice. We have made a cool video with Glenn Gaddum jr to demo these 3 basses.
This particular bass has a cedar body. Cedar is interesting. It’s lighter than alder and a very resonant wood. It gives some extra sub low and top end accents, that alder doesn’t have. It opens up the P sound to a bit more airy P sound. It’s like a little bit larger P sound, a little bit more acoustic in character. It is therefore also a bit less dirty in character. It weighs 3.6 kg. The color is Evening Orchid, a muscle car color. It has a mild relic finish.
