A happy customer

Well, we were thinking what to put on our newspage for this week and we decided to let you in on a customers thoughts about his latest DeGier Origin. You’ve seen the progress pictures of this bass before if you recall. It’s a four string Origin Custom with Olive wood top. Here it is:

Today I received the second bass which you built for me. Some words I want to say. Flow – a condition of absolutely bliss.
Sometimes there are moments where so many things become unimportant, only what we are doing with total devotion, like a little child who’s playing and forgets all around it, that’s flow. This moment I had, as I opened the case.
Flow !
At this point, many many special thanks for this fantastic art work. Also the sound, there is no open wish. I picked up the bass plugged in the cable in the amp, what should i say, I played the bass with my fingers near the fretboard, closed my eyes and thought I heard a double bass. These two basses from you, are my twin – babes from now on, fantastic, the best basses I ever played. I hope we keep in touch, because in my head is already the next idea, but it needs time.Thank you very very much, from the luckiest guy in whole Vienna and kind regards, Johann

I love olives

As the trees are becoming more yellow then green and the streets are filling with leaves work never stops at De Gier Guitars & Basses. This week we’re finishing up a new fourstring Origin custom Deluxe fretless..! We’ve made a few pictures for you to see the beauty of an Olive top. The Mahogany body and Ebony fingerboard make this bass a beauty to look at:

Don’t worry, it will get strings.. :-)

Besides that we are working on another 5 string bass, also an Origin custom Deluxe, with a Walnut top and all maple neck. This is one of the most beautiful dark/light combinations we’ve made up till now. Here are some raw pictures:

Can you imagine what it will look like when it’s finished? We can.. :)

Don’t forget to surf by our YouTube channel for lots of videos! We’ve just uploaded another short demo of Sander (De Gier) playing on a four string Origin with a sunburst high gloss finish.. Prepare to be rocked!

Marcus Miller checking out Origin Deluxe

From this week you can expect this news item every wednesday because of a small change in planning. Last Saturday we had some of our friends in the shop trying out our new basses and one of them made a video with his phone which we posted on our YouTube channel. Follow this link to watch it…

Also today we are finishing the guitar we’re making for Elisa Krijgsman! We’re installing the Buzz Feiten Tuning System, so this guitar will be completely in tune. It has Bareknuckle humbuckers as well as a LR Baggs Piezo system… A very versatile guitar for a very talented player!
Here’s a quick look:

Take a look at our MySpace blog for some more pictures.

Besides that, as I told you last week, there are a couple of six string basses finished and they are anxiously waiting for someone to pick them up..! If you’re looking for a new six string you’d better make sure to come by the shop soon because these ones are not going to last long here… …

:)

I almost forgot to tell you.. Look who was playing one of our basses last week:

yup, that’s Marcus Miller.. And he loved the sound and clarity of the bass!

Just listen, don’t watch…:)

Fall has made its entrance which means that, here in Holland, it rains a lot, the sky is grey and the wind is strong… When we look out the window we can see bikers who are struggling against the wind, trying to move forward. And bikers going the other way leaning back into the wind that is blowing them forward… It doesn’t happen a lot but sometimes it is so quiet in the shop that, like right now, you can only hear the sound of someone typing, a light buzz of the lights and the sound of the wind rushing to its destination.

Anyway, this week we have some very interesting news… We have finished the six string basses that we’ve been talking about the last weeks and we are absolutely thrilled with the result! Expect some nice video demos of these awesome bass guitars next week. If there’s anything particular you’d like to see or hear from these basses let us know and we will do our best to get it on our YouTube channel!

Yesterday we were in Ahoy, Rotterdam, at the Houtbeurs (Wood fair) 2008 which appeared to be a good place to expand our network and our technological knowledge and to get updated with the latest innovations for our line of work. We’re doing research to see if we can apply these innovations and it seems like there are a couple of things that are going to make it. As you all know we, at De Gier Guitars, want our instruments not to be good, we want them to be the best! We are always focussed on how to improve the production proces and how to improve our instruments. This is the reason why we are investing in better equipment, the finest available wood and the best parts to match the quality we desire from our instruments. You will know this when you try one of them.

Check out this video where Sander de Gier is slapping a bronze (!) bass:
