De Gier Guitar & Basses - News Archive:

[29.July.2009]

We're back from the holidays and the shop is open again. Keep in mind that all webshop enquiries will still be on hold for another week.

We've finally found some time to edit one of the latest video recordings we did with one of our customers, who is a great guitarist and well-known amongst our readers.. His name is Niels van der Steenhoven and in this video he plays a De Gier Authority prototype! Niels plays, in this video, through a V-Empire Greenpoint amp, 4*EL84, 30W.

Rockin' XXL:

And to continue where we left of last week I have a couple of pictures of another amazing Reflection... Beautiful flamed Redwood, in blue.

[24.June.2009]

This week: no words, just images...

Daphne Blue Abachi body - Maple neck with a Santos Rosewood fingerboard - Bareknuckle P90 in the neck position and a Bareknuckle Piledriver in the bridge position - Custom ordered by Keith Vonderhulls (founder of Build Your Own Clone)...

See you next week!

[18.June.2009]

I couldn't help but show you a picture made at the photoshoot yesterday.. It's a custom order lefthanded Reflection with a beautiful flame maple top, flampe maple fingerboard and even a flame maple trussrod cover... :-D

Let us know what you think!

[17.June.2009]

And yet another week has past... Time is flying by and you would almost forget how much work is being done and how many instruments are going through the door with a new owner. This week we are finishing three new Reflections of which it is unfair to simply name them beautiful. I'm sorry to say I don't have any pictures at the moment, but we will make room for a photoshoot this week, so you will have something to gaze at next week!

Oh, and thanks for reading..! :-)

[11.June.2009]

Prepare yourself for some very cool noise! Our friend Albin, from Moody Sounds in Sweden has built himself a very cool pedal - The Mushroom Echo. This is not your typical echo pedal, well, as a matter of fact it is but it has a very cool feature that is unique to echo pedals around the globe. The fun part is that this is supplied in a building kit so you can build it completely by yourself!

You can order this pedal through our webshop right here!

Check out this video demo of the Mushroom Echo by Moody Sounds (the Fuzz is also from Moody by the way):

Next week we'll have pictures of the Reflections you saw last week. Prepare for some serious beautifulness! (is that even a word..?)

[02.June.2009]

This week is a blue week, which doesn't apply to our mood... Let me explain:

From left to right: a lefthanded Reflection with a (blue) flame maple top, a righthanded Reflection with a (blue) flame Redwood top and another (blue) Reflection!
This is probably our most versatile model as these three will vary in pickups (from P90 to Tele-single coil to humbucker) as well as Gibson style bridge, vintage Fender style tremolo and Tele type bridge. This is not your average Strat-copy or Tele-like guitar..  Have it built the way you want it..!

Besides that I can tell you some other hot news... As most of you remember well, a month or two ago we made a new model, Authority. (I posted a sweet picture of it 18th March) After a couple of weeks playing it, having other players give there opinion, we decided to change a couple of minor things to the design and we are working on a new prototype model for the Authority..! As for now I can't give you any more details other than that it will be a 'gold' winner.. :)

See you next week, hopefully I will have some pictures for you of the build of this new prototype!

[27.May.2009]

We're back from The Hague Jazz and we had a wonderful time.. Thanks to all the people who came by our stand and tried our instruments. Especially Robert Pronk (Sabrina Stark, bass), Glenn Gaddum (Frank McComb, bass), Matthias Bangert (Club des Belugas, bass), Tamas Barabas (Djabe, bass), Alune (Syndicate, bass), Michael Manson (George Duke, bass), Reggie Washington (New Morning Project, bass) and many others...

I already mentioned Robert Pronk who plays with Sabrina Stark at the moment, who's star is rising very fast! They were also performing at The Hague Jazz and while Robert is waiting for his new De Gier Elevation to be finished he played another one of our latest Elevations during the show.

Maybe you recognise our De Gier 'Leopard' - with our own new prototype preamp!

See you next week!

[22.May.2009]

Just a quick notice before we head off to The Hague for The Hague Jazz! We will be closed today (Friday, 22nd) and tomorrow (Saturday, 23rd)!

Visit us on the first floor of the World Forum building... You can't miss us!

Oh, and did you know Bob Ross is building a bass? Check this out, right from Schiedam:

See you next week with footage from The Hague Jazz!

[13.May.2009]

Next week, 22nd & 23rd of May, we are at The Hague Jazz and we're bringing our instruments! Visit our booth at the 1st floor of the World Forum... Good music and beautiful instruments all in a perfect location in The Hague/Den Haag. If you've never heard of The Hague Jazz before, download an overview of the artists that are coming to perform this year right here (PDF file) or visit their website: The Hague Jazz.com. Featuring artist like: George Duke, Yellowjackets, Kyteman's HipHop Orkest, Sabrina Starke, Dave Holland Quintet, Trijntje Oosterhuis, Rod Mckuen, De Dijk, Hugh Masekela and lot's of others it's going to be a feast for the ears!

We finally have them! The new 210MNT cabinets from Vanderkley Amplification..! You're looking at two 2*10" cabinets with a 1" compression driver with horn. You can come by our shop for a try to let these beauties work!

[06.May.2009]

Not much to say this week other than we still 'pretty' busy with getting all orders ready in time. But to make sure you didn't visit for nothing, here's a cool picture of the 5 string Origin Sunburst we made for our friends at Musik-Schmidt in Frankfurt, Germany:

Thanks for reading..! See you next week!

[01.May.2009]

It was a bizar "Koninginnedag" yesterday. Our thoughts and prayers go out to the victims, and their family, of yesterdays strange events...

[29.April.2009]

These last few weeks have been extremely busy and we've been working hard to keep everything in order and make sure that all the work is still done at the highest possible level. At this point the waiting list for a new De Gier guitar or bass is approximately a half year. For setups, customising and repairs we're slowly shrinking the waiting list from up to four weeks to two-three depending on the amount of work! Which is a good thing because we've been asking a lot of patience of some of our faithful customers...

Having said that, I have a couple of pictures for you this week of some of the orders we're working on right now...

An Origin Sunburst, 5 string, is waiting for the final buffing stages before final assembly and setup.

Here's an Elevation with a beautiful quilted maple top..! There's someone really anxious of seeing this bass get finished.. :)

And a close up of the beautiful flames on a body for a lefthanded Reflection in the rough. The diagonal lines you can see in the picture are from rough sanding the top so it's nice and straight/leveled.

Happy Koninginnedag tomorrow to all our Dutch readers!

[22.April.2009]

Did you enjoy the music last week? Just scroll down a bit if you've missed it.. And if this is your first visit, grab something to drink, relax, scroll all the way down and enjoy!

This week we have finished a couple of beautiful new basses, an Elevation and an Origin! They will soon go to Bass Connection in Hilversum. So if you're in the neighbourhood, pass by Edwin's shop and give them a try! Make sure to compare them with any other high-end bass in his shop and you'll know what we stand for...

(They both have an Alder body, three-piece maple neck w/ Ebony fingerboard, Sadowsky pickups, Buckey Burl top for the Elevation - Rosewood fingerboard, Nordstrand pickups and beautiful Spalted Maple top on the Origin, they both have a Glockenklang preamp)

Also I can tell you that there are a number of exciting things ready to take place here at De Gier Guitars & Basses..! Stay tuned to this page the coming weeks as it will unfold in the (very) near future!

See you next week!

[15.April.2009]

I have to start this week by making a BIG apology to all our faithful readers... It was so busy last week I simply didn't have time to write a newsitem for you.
But I will make it up to you with some interesting news and the latest news from the music scene! You've read it here first!

Not so long ago we made a beautiful six string bass guitar and someone fell in love with it, this persons name is Ronle Rouse. He plays in several bands, but we will highlight one for you: Nanda Akkerman - check out her YouTube page right here..! She also has a new EP out called "High Heels"...

Okay, okay, for all you reggae lovers.. He also did a tour with Richie Spice from Jamaica and will do a theatertour with the Rootsriders, Tribute 2 Bob Marley. This tour will start in september this year and will also support a good cause!

And some music for you all to enjoy:

[April.1.2009]

This week we have a preview of a real-life soap happening at De Gier Guitars & Basses. Every week we have a guitar builders course and we have a camera following the ins and outs of these days. Here's the first preview of it (apologies to all our international readers, it's in dutch only):

[March.25.2009]

Check out this cool video of the studiorecording of the Vincenzo Maurogiovanni trio playing 'Ana Maria' (W.Shorter)... They will release their new album soon!

See you next week!

[March.18.2009]

We will have to keep it short this week.. Business is going crazy here at De Gier Guitars & Basses! There's a big pile of work just waiting to get done. But to make sure you have something to look at I will post a beautiful shot of the De Gier Authority, our latest prototype of the new guitar model..! Let us know what you think. Make sure you have a napkin closeby:

[March.11.2009]

This week I give you, De Gier Elevation! (if you're on a slow connection it might take a little longer...)

[March.04.2009]

Spring is in the air, birds are singing their heart out, U2 has launched their new album and De Gier Guitars & Basses is finishing up three new Elevations! Already 2009 is a great year and it's getting better as we speak...  Let's waste no more words and let you in on the latest look of a very special Elevation for a very special member of the De Gier family:

Well, there you go...  Mahogany body, three piece rock Maple neck, reinforced with graphite rods, African Blackwood fingerboard and the top of the body and the headstock are finished with beautiful, extremely figured spalted Maple. To finish it off we put knobs on it made of spalted Maple as well!

Next week we will show you another Elevation as well as this one completely finished!

[February.25.2009]

Let me introduce you this week to a new brand of guitar ánd bass DIY effect kits: Moody Sounds.  These kits are what you are looking for if you're chasing after your unique sound and style. These kits come from Sweden and consist of the highest quality parts. Instructions are very clear and the parts are already sorted and labeled, so no hard time figuring out all the resistors, capacitors, etc... Check out the Moody Sounds YouTube channel for videos, how-to's and samples.

This week we're finishing the top coat of the Elevations I showed you last week. These basses will be ready for final assembly pretty soon, so don't take your eyes of this space as there will be limited time to try these babies as they will fly out very quickly once they are finished...

See you next week...

[February.18.2009]

Hello and good morning to you all..! First off thank you for visiting our website to check out what's happening at De Gier Guitars & Basses.

This week Sander is in the finishing process of three new Elevations and we're still not getting used to the beauty of these basses! You've seen these beauties before but I've made a few quick pictures of how they look after a couple of coats of filler. The first one you see below is a five string Elevation, body wood is Abachi, something extraordinary..! It sounds killer but weighs so little you'd think it's hollow! It has a yellowish colour and smells enormously when it's processed, but it's very much worth it. The sound of this bass is going to hold more tone than you can handle..!
We've used Camphor Burl on the top, and back as you can see, who said anything about a tiger? Here's a De Gier "leopard":

And here is another De Gier Elevation... This five string Elevation features an Alder body, Buckey Burl top. No more words, a picture says more than... you know what I mean.

Need I say more?

[February.11.2009]

This week I feel obligated to tell you that the waiting list for a new De Gier bass, or guitar is growing pretty rapidly..! More and more musicians are finding their way to our shop and discover the beauty and craftmanship of a De Gier instrument. We will send out a newsletter this week so keep an eye on your mailbox! We have some interesting things to tell you. If you haven't received anything by the end of the week let us know! We'll check if something has gone wrong.
If you haven't received newsletters at all, chances are that you're not on the list... Send us an email to our info'at'degiergitaarbouw.nl address to let us know and we'll add you to the list. Besides reading this weekly news page it's the way to stay updated with everything happening at De Gier Guitars & Basses.

And just for fun, here's a picture of one of our latest six string Origins:

Till next week..!

[February.3.2009]

As some of you already know we build guitars and basses... (seriously? :-) )
These instruments are built with much love and tender care. The outcome is a guitar or bass of which we feel that it's a great and amazing instrument, in the hands of any musician, who can feel this instrument and who will take it and let him/her be taken to another level, a deeper level...
There's not one detail missed in the design of these guitars and every bit of work on these instruments is given as much attention as it can handle.

Our goal is that these guitars and basses find their way into your hands so you can get a grip on these beauties... This is also one of the reasons why we've named our latest guitar model 'Authority' - this guitar demands authority over any other guitar out there..!
We want to let it speak for itself. You must understand this isn't just your average high-end guitar, it's something else... It goes beyond...!
We already have had quite a number of people taking up the challenge to come by and try to tame it, and few have succeeded.

As you've probably seen the pictures of last week, you will know there are three new Elevations being prepared for this journey. If you read this and something inside you is stirring you might want to take the opportunity to let us know... We can give you a notice once these beauties are finished so you can come by and see if you are up to the challenge!

Before I forget, on our YouTube channel we have a new video of an amazing bass player, Vincenzo Maurogiovanni, who has found his match...  At the moment we are working on a new six string Elevation custom built to live up to the high standards of this amazing virtuoso.
Here's the link: Vincenzo Maurogiovanni @ De Gier Guitars & Basses

That's all for this week, see you next week..!

[January.28.2009]

The prototype has gone through a couple of changes... We've replaced the knob on the tone control, all three knobs are the same now.. We have also placed another set of pickups because we felt the first set (Bare Knuckle VHII & Mule) we'd put in were a bit to modern for our taste in combination with this guitar.
It now holds a set of (also) Bare Knuckle Black Dog humbucker pickups and we are very excited about the match with this guitar! It has a very distinguished sound to it, it sounds like a genuine classic..! We call it 'Authority' - because this guitar gives you a feeling of dominion. We challenge you, dear reader, to come by our shop and try this amazing instrument yourself! (scroll down for pics)

At the moment Sander is working on three new Elevations, which are looking beautiful! Allow me to give you a small preview of this triplet:

Aren't they gorgeous..?

And who said you couldn't use the piece with the most flames on the back?

[January.21.2009]

As we posted two weeks ago about the new prototype being in it's final stages, I now have some footage for you of what it looks at this point... We're working hard to get it finished this week, but since it is very busy we can't promise you anything. Here it is:

s

Nickel hardware, Bare Knuckle pickups, hmmm... I think we'll have to finish it soon! :)
(no worries, it will get a new knob as tone control...)

Besides that I can't tell you more than that it's pretty busy and there's a lot of work to be done. We'll see you next week!

[January.07.2009]

Well, I hope you all had a great end of last year and we wish you all the best for this coming year, 2009! We're excited about it because there's a lot of good things just right around the corner..!

As we speak, and snow is coming down outside, we're finishing the new guitar prototype... Sander is finishing the poslishing and buffing process which is pretty time consuming since this model has a set neck. I can tell you it's gaining more beauty every minute! This model has got so much tone already in it's body and neck that's it will sound amazing when it's finished. We'll start taking orders soon... :)

Well, have to get back to work... Untill next week!

Oh, almost forgot. One of our customers, Peter van Gestel from The Memphis Maniacs, had a show in Paradiso and send us this picture made by photographer Raoul Kramer - Raoulphotography.com:

[December.24.2008]

A Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year  to all of you! We want to take the opportunity to thank you all! You are the ones who make this possible and we just want you to know we appreciate it..! We're looking forward to 2009 as it's going to break any record we ever had at De Gier Guitars & Basses

This is also our last news item for the year of 2008... The shop only closes during Christmas and on new year's day.

Never thought we could say it, but: See you next year!

[December.17.2008]

You'd need a big tree this year to put your DeGier bassguitar under. But hey, you don't need a tree if you want a DeGier bass...

This week we have some interesting info for all of our guitarplaying friends. There's a new analog delay released, this time from Build Your Own Clone. And let me tell you that this delay is fully analog but with a delay time of 800ms and it is capable of up to 2 seconds of analog delay time! At that point the delays are grainy and it's a bit noisy, but it's possible... :)

Here's a 'short' video of what it's capable of:

Stock is going extremely fast on these babies..! Make it fast or have yourself put on the waiting list...

Here's another video I promised you last week.. Vincenzo Maurogiovanni showing his techniques and skills:

See you next week!

[December.09.2008]

From a rainy Schiedam, it's time to let you know that if you're looking to order a De Gier anytime soon you'd better make it fast..! Time will tell that the waiting list will grow substantially! It is now around two months before a bass or guitar would be ready, I can't tell you how much longer it will be in the very near future...

Anyway, last Saturday we had our good friend Vincenzo Maurogiovanni over to do a clinic for us as well as Vanderkley Amplification. It was a great day! For now I only have a short video with Vincenzo enjoying his six string De Gier, but we will post more videos and stuff like that later this week and the following weeks after that..!

[December.03.2008]

So it's the first newsitem in the last month of the great 2008! I hope you enjoyed the flying car last week? :-)

This week we wanted to remind you of the clinic that will be held in our shop this Saturday! Starting at 13.00hr, 6 December 2008, Vincenzo Maurogiovanni is coming to tremble our foundation..! He will show and explain his techniques and will teach you all the ins and outs. Don't forget to bring your own bass as there will be a lot of opportunity to excercise the shown techniques. Make sure to be on time or you'll have to sit all the way in the back...

And again we will show you an amazing bass guitar you'll probably know already... Can you recall a certain bronze bass we have in stock? I'm certain we will not be able to hold on to it as long as we would like to because this bass is a killer bass! Well to be honest, we already knew this is a killer bass, but now it's finish is killing us... What we've done is work up the bronze, which is actual bronze, with acid. We've used.. Sorry, no more words. Check this out! (beware, large pictures, might take a little longer to load)

See you next week! Thanks for looking..!
(if you want one of these as a new desktop background, send an email to info'at'degiergitaarbouw.nl)

[November.25.2008]

And already another week has passed... Time goes so extremely fast these days we can hardly imagine how fast it is! I remember being a small kid and telling the world that in the year 2000 cars would be flying in stead of driving over the road. No more traffic jams. Well, being it is almost 2009 it appears I wasn't completely wrong...

And we at De Gier Guitars & Basses are also keeping ourselves up to date with the latest technologies as we are now in the process of testing UV-curing finish.
So now we have people in white suits carrying UV lamps in our workshop...

Pretty exciting, because it will mean we can finish a guitar finish within two days in stead of three weeks..!

[November.20.2008]

I'm sorry, I couldn't help but to show you the finished look of the burst that's on the new guitar right now.. It's just finished!
Don't forget to scroll down for all the other news items. It's good reading during your coffee break.. :-)

[November.19.2008]

Have you written 6 December already in you calendar? Make sure you do because it promises to be a great afternoon with Vincenzo Maurogiovanni, Vanderkley Amps & De Gier Guitars altogether here in Schiedam! If you want to improve on your bass skills you absolutely don't want to miss this...

And now, my dear friends, it's time for some wow's, oooh's and aahh's... check this out... Our latest prototype:

It will be done in a couple of weeks, it's hanging in the spraybooth at the moment just waiting to be finished. Lightweight mahogany body, flame maple top, even for a prototype. Although we noticed a small knot in the wood that was invisible to the eye when selecting the wood for the top. You can see it on the picture on the left. We're glad it's 'just' a prototype.. :) This one has an African Blackwood fingerboard and two-piece mahogany neck by the way. You can expect  a short demovideo of this one maybe even before Christmas..!

See you next week! ciao!

[November.12.2008]

Did you know that we are starting with a new course? A build-your-own-guitar course? If you're interested send us an email at the special address: cursus'at'degiergitaarbouw.nl (for spam protection we've removed the '@' sign, replace 'at' with it)
Sander De Gier himself will be your guide through the complete process! Make sure to respond as quick as you can, because of the high amount of personal attention every participant gets there is only a small number of vacancies.

Also something to write down in your agenda is Saturday the 6th of December 2008! Vincenzo Maurogiovanni will come to our shop to give a clinic on our latest six string Elevation through Vanderkley Amps!

Stay sharp because our newsletter is on it's way...

That's it for now. Have to get back to work because it's pretty busy! :) Thanks for reading..!

[November.05.2008]

Hi again! First of all thank you for taking a moment of your precious time to pay a visit to our news section and read about what's going on at De Gier Guitars..! Life would be very boring without all of you who make this possible, so once again a BIG thank you!

This week we have a short demo video of  Elisa Krijgsman who came by our shop to pick up his custom ordered De Gier Reflection. This guitar will show you how versatile a Reflection can be! It has a set of Bare Knuckle NailBomb pickups, LR Baggs piezo Tremolo with Control-X preamp, Grover locking tuners. A Mahogany body with a beautiful quilted maple top. The neck is made of the finest rock maple with a nice African Blackwood fingerboard.  Enough talk, here's the video:

Elisa Krijgsman plays with Neal Morse and they recently had a show at 'De Boerderij' in Zoetermeer as part of their European tour. We had the opportunity to be at the soundcheck and we've made a couple of pictures:

Elisa bending it to the limit!                                                       Neal, Elisa &  Jessica

beautiful...

And our good friend Vincenzo Maurogiovanni performed at the Euro BassDay at Verona, Italy! He played on a six string Elevation... You've probably seen that one before, and if not, scroll down. :)

[October.29.2008]

Well, we were thinking what to put on our newspage for this week and we decided to let you in on a customers thoughts about his latest DeGier Origin. You've seen the progress pictures of this bass before if you recall. It's a four string Origin Custom with Olive wood top. Here it is:

[quote]
Today I received the second bass which you built for me. Some words I want to say. Flow - a condition of absolutely bliss.
Sometimes there are moments where so many things become unimportant, only what we are doing with total devotion, like a little child who's playing and forgets all around it, that's flow. This moment I had, as I opened the case.
Flow !
At this point, many many special thanks for this fantastic art work. Also the sound, there is no open wish. I picked up the bass plugged in the cable in the amp, what should i say, I played the bass with my fingers near the fretboard, closed my eyes and thought I heard a double bass. These two basses from you, are my twin - babes from now on, fantastic, the best basses I ever played. I hope we keep in touch, because in my head is already the next idea, but it needs time.Thank you very very much, from the luckiest guy in whole Vienna and kind regards, Johann
[unquote]

And if, for you, words aren't enough, we've made a couple of very nice pictures for you. Extra large this time around...

Go to our Myspace blog for more pictures..!

[October.22.2008]

Another week has passed and we're pretty busy so we'll keep it short this time.. We've been at the BassDay Europe in Solingen which was very nice..! Here are a couple of our Dutch friends who were there also. Our good friend JayTee who gave a few demos as well!

JayTee Teterissa!

Jacco and Ferdinand from Rikkers Guitars.                                        Ben & Rob from Hevos Amplifiers!

Ellio Martina & Marc VanderKley

See you next week!

[October.15.2008]

As the trees are becoming more yellow then green and the streets are filling with leaves work never stops at De Gier Guitars & Basses. This week we're finishing up a new fourstring Origin custom Deluxe fretless..! We've made a few pictures for you to see the beauty of an Olive top. The Mahogany body and Ebony fingerboard make this bass a beauty to look at:

Don't worry, it will get strings.. :-)

Besides that we are working on another 5 string bass, also an Origin custom Deluxe, with a Walnut top and all maple neck. This is one of the most beautiful dark/light combinations we've made up till now. Here are some raw pictures:

Can you imagine what it will look like when it's finished? We can.. :)

Don't forget to surf by our YouTube channel for lots of videos! We've just uploaded another short demo of Sander (De Gier) playing on a four string Origin with a sunburst high gloss finish.. Prepare to be rocked!

[October.08.2008]

From this week you can expect this news item every wednesday because of a small change in planning. Last Saturday we had some of our friends in the shop trying out our new basses and one of them made a video with his phone which we posted on our YouTube channel. Follow this link to watch it...

Also today we are finishing the guitar we're making for Elisa Krijgsman! We're installing the Buzz Feiten Tuning System, so this guitar will be completely in tune. It has Bareknuckle humbuckers as well as a LR Baggs Piezo system... A very versatile guitar for a very talented player!
Here's a quick look:

Take a look at our MySpace blog for some more pictures.

Besides that, as I told you last week, there are a couple of six string basses finished and they are anxiously waiting for someone to pick them up..! If you're looking for a new six string you'd better make sure to come by the shop soon because these ones are not going to last long here... ...

... :)

I almost forgot to tell you.. Look who was playing one of our basses last week:

yup, that's Marcus Miller.. And he loved the sound and clarity of the bass!

[October.01.2008]

Fall has made its entrance which means that, here in Holland, it rains a lot, the sky is grey and the wind is strong... When we look out the window we can see bikers who are struggling against the wind, trying to move forward. And bikers going the other way leaning back into the wind that is blowing them forward... It doesn't happen a lot but sometimes it is so quiet in the shop that, like right now, you can only hear the sound of someone typing, a light buzz of the lights and the sound of the wind rushing to its destination.

Anyway, this week we have some very interesting news... We have finished the six string basses that we've been talking about the last weeks and we are absolutely thrilled with the result! Expect some nice video demos of these awesome bass guitars next week. If there's anything particular you'd like to see or hear from these basses let us know and we will do our best to get it on our YouTube channel!

Yesterday we were in Ahoy, Rotterdam, at the Houtbeurs (Wood fair) 2008 which appeared to be a good place to expand our network and our technological knowledge and to get updated with the latest innovations for our line of work. We're doing research to see if we can apply these innovations and it seems like there are a couple of things that are going to make it. As you all know we, at De Gier Guitars, want our instruments not to be good, we want them to be the best! We are always focussed on how to improve the production proces and how to improve our instruments. This is the reason why we are investing in better equipment, the finest available wood and the best parts to match the quality we desire from our instruments. You will know this when you try one of them.

Check out this video where Sander de Gier is slapping a bronze (!) bass:

This year is flying by and is exceeding all our expectations in every way! We're not going to post any pictures of videos this week in this post, but if you go to our YouTube channel you will find a couple of new ones and new ones that will be added during this week... Since we get very good responses to the short demo of our latest Elevation we decided to make some more..! We've just uploaded a video where Marc Vanderkley (Vanderkley bass amps) is trying out the same Elevation on his own amp. The recording is made in exactly the same way as the other video so you can get a pretty good idea of how his amp compares to the Hevos amp that's used in the other demo. Let us know what you want to hear/see, what kind of  preamp setting, tone setting, anything..! If it's possible, we'll record it and post it on the Tube.. :)

Besides that we had Niels vd Steenhoven in the shop who also tried out one of our guitars, the Reflection. It has our own pickups in it, Swamp Ash body and all Rock Maple neck & fingerboard. Take a look at our YouTube channel to see what it's all about..!

[September.16.2008]

First of all we'd like to take the opportunity to give a BIG Thank You! to all the people who give DeGier Guitars & Basses a special place in their hearts..! Also all the musicians who've joined the DeGier family are very much appreciated! You are the ones who make this all possible..!

Having that said we'd like you to meet another member of the DeGier family:

This is the latest and the greatest, a six string Elevation! It has a burl maple top on the front & the back, you've probably seen the progress pictures earlier on this page already, if not, scroll down! :)

Besides that we're also going to send out our newsletter for this month! So no more news here, read the newsletter..!

See you next week!

[September.09.2008]

We have launched a new website! It's totally dedicated to Repairs & Customising. Mind you, it's in dutch completely, so all of you who don't speak or read dutch can look at the nice pictures... :) You can find it right here!

Besides that we've also posted some new videos on YouTube. Check out this one where two good friends of DeGier are jamming together on our instruments at the North Sea Jazz Festival 2008!

Ow, and check out these pictures of a new six string Elevation that's being finished in the coming weeks..!

And do you recognise this one:

[September.02.2008]

After one week back at work we can say that this year is going to be an awesome year! The DeGier family is getting bigger and bigger and we're making new friends everyday (not only on MySpace... ;-) )! You've probably noticed but the buzz is going 'round and there's good reason for it! All of you who've ever been in the shop trying out our guitars or basses know this already. But if you don't know what it's all about, why all these professional players are starting to get more and more into DeGier you've got to find a way for yourself to find out what it's all about... You have to get one of these instruments in your own hands and feel and hear what it's all about..! I can easily say you will not be dissapointed!

Besides that we've got word from our good friend Habib Faye that they've just finished a couple of amazing shows in Denmark with Angelique Kidjo.
Here's a picture of Habib on his 4-string DeGier Origin Custom.

We're also working on another signature bass, but this one is going to have only one signature! This one is going to blow every other bass out of the water! So keep your eyes focussed right here and check back regular to make sure you don't miss out on this one..!

And again, here's another short video of our visit to the North Sea Jazz festival. This time there's also a short jam of Habib with an unknown guitarist who's got some nice rythm! :)

[August.26.2008]

The holidays are now really over... We're all back at the nest and enjoy being home again. Work will continue as usual so you can expect a couple of amazing six string bass guitars stretch their wings and fly out soon..! Besides that we're still busy editing the video we shot at the North Sea Jazz fest. And another video has made it to our channel. After days of selecting and deciding.. ... uhm, yeah right, well anyway, you can see Gerald Veasley trying out one of the latest six string Origins made for Quincell Adolphin!
Enough talk, here's the video:

The player is Teddy Ras - check out his MySpace.

During this month there won't be much news beacuse of the holiday season. All repairs and setups will continue but there won't be
much going on in the workshop. Expect more on that in the beginning of september.

Enjoy the holidays!

[July.29.2008]

Another week has passed and again a lot of new things to tell you! First of all, it's holiday season and:

We'll be closed from 5-9 August!

Having that said it's now time for some more important things... We're busy with editing all the footage we've made at the North Sea Jazz festival and there's a lot of fun stuff on tape. We'll try to get a new video out to YouTube every week, so make sure to subscribe to our YouTube channel so you won't miss out..!

[July.22.2008]

You already know about the six string Elevation we're making at the moment... So we won't bother you with the fact that it is going to be one of the most beautiful bass guitars we've built so far. :-)

Besides that we're also very busy in editing the film we've shot at North Sea Jazz... There are some pretty amazing musicians on it!
Unfortunately we can't give you a sneak preview just yet, so make sure you subscribe to our YouTube channel so you won't miss out!

The film we've made of the making of the two first Elevation Custom Limited Edition models was also the first of a lot more 'making-of' films.
If there's anything specific you would like to see about the making of any of our instruments just send as a message/mail with your question and
we'll do our best to get it out to you as soon as possible..!

Oh, before we forget, as you all know (of course) we have a new international endorser for our bass guitars - Habib Faye. Ad as the first video material
is already appearing on YouTube, we decided to make a challenge for you..!

The first person to send us a clear picture of Habib Faye, on stage, with his 4 string De Gier Origin will get a nice gift of us that will
surely improve his (or her) sound!

Check out this short snippet of him with Angelique Kidjo on stage in Paris.. The guitarist on the left is another good friend of De Gier.
His name is Rubens de la Corte! Don't forget that name..!

Well, that's it for now.. oh, not completely.. check this video on YouTube of Adam Johnson, at the moment the bass player of Jill Scott, playing on the six string Origin of Quincell - click here...
