[29.July.2009] We're back from the holidays and the shop is open again. Keep in mind that all webshop enquiries will still be on hold for another week. We've finally found some time to edit one of the latest video recordings we did with one of our customers, who is a great guitarist and well-known amongst our readers.. His name is Niels van der Steenhoven and in this video he plays a De Gier Authority prototype! Niels plays, in this video, through a V-Empire Greenpoint amp, 4*EL84, 30W. Rockin' XXL:
[14.July.2009] We're back from North Sea Jazz and finishing up last things before we close for the holidays..! Keep in mind we will be closed, starting thís saturday, from 18th through 28th of July..! We had a great time again at North Sea Jazz in Ahoy, Rotterdam and we'd like to share it with you... Here are two quick pix of Glenn Gaddum Jr. and Etienne Mbappé who (among many others) visited our stand. If you'd like to see who else visited our booth check out our MySpace photo album.
Besides that we had a great time collecting more signatures for our original Signature Origin. Check out this page for the pictures..! Thanks to Maurice for getting us backstage with Mike Pope.. :)
[1.July.2009] If you're a fan of great music and want to see a vast number of great artists all in one place, you have no choice but to come to the North Sea Jazz festival next week, 10th - 12th July (friday - sunday). The best thing is that while you're there you can get yourself over to Mississippi Market and pay a visit to stand nr. 8. You'll recognise us by a collection of beautiful basses and guitars..! The 34th edition of the North Sea Festival starts on Friday, 10th July, and you can get your tickets right here... Among the line-up are Duffy, Herbie Hancock & Lang Lang, B.B. King, James Taylor, Jamie Cullum and Joe Bonamassa! We will have a limited number of official De Gier T-shirts available for the first visitors to our stand! Get your free De Gier T-shirt while you can..! And to continue where we left of last week I have a couple of pictures of another amazing Reflection... Beautiful flamed Redwood, in blue.
[24.June.2009] This week: no words, just images...
Daphne Blue Abachi body - Maple neck with a Santos Rosewood fingerboard - Bareknuckle P90 in the neck position and a Bareknuckle Piledriver in the bridge position - Custom ordered by Keith Vonderhulls (founder of Build Your Own Clone)... See you next week! [18.June.2009] I couldn't help but show you a picture made at the photoshoot yesterday.. It's a custom order lefthanded Reflection with a beautiful flame maple top, flampe maple fingerboard and even a flame maple trussrod cover... :-D Let us know what you think!
[17.June.2009] And yet another week has past... Time is flying by and you would almost forget how much work is being done and how many instruments are going through the door with a new owner. This week we are finishing three new Reflections of which it is unfair to simply name them beautiful. I'm sorry to say I don't have any pictures at the moment, but we will make room for a photoshoot this week, so you will have something to gaze at next week! Oh, and thanks for reading..! :-) [11.June.2009] Prepare yourself for some very cool noise! Our friend Albin, from Moody Sounds in Sweden has built himself a very cool pedal - The Mushroom Echo. This is not your typical echo pedal, well, as a matter of fact it is but it has a very cool feature that is unique to echo pedals around the globe. The fun part is that this is supplied in a building kit so you can build it completely by yourself! You can order this pedal through our webshop right here! Check out this video demo of the Mushroom Echo by Moody Sounds (the Fuzz is also from Moody by the way): Next week we'll have pictures of the Reflections you saw last week. Prepare for some serious beautifulness! (is that even a word..?) [02.June.2009] This week is a blue week, which doesn't apply to our mood... Let me explain:
This is probably our most versatile model as these three will vary in pickups (from P90 to Tele-single coil to humbucker) as well as Gibson style bridge, vintage Fender style tremolo and Tele type bridge. This is not your average Strat-copy or Tele-like guitar.. Have it built the way you want it..! Besides that I can tell you some other hot news... As most of you remember well, a month or two ago we made a new model, Authority. (I posted a sweet picture of it 18th March) After a couple of weeks playing it, having other players give there opinion, we decided to change a couple of minor things to the design and we are working on a new prototype model for the Authority..! As for now I can't give you any more details other than that it will be a 'gold' winner.. :) See you next week, hopefully I will have some pictures for you of the build of this new prototype! [27.May.2009] We're back from The Hague Jazz and we had a wonderful time.. Thanks to all the people who came by our stand and tried our instruments. Especially Robert Pronk (Sabrina Stark, bass), Glenn Gaddum (Frank McComb, bass), Matthias Bangert (Club des Belugas, bass), Tamas Barabas (Djabe, bass), Alune (Syndicate, bass), Michael Manson (George Duke, bass), Reggie Washington (New Morning Project, bass) and many others...
I already mentioned Robert Pronk who plays with Sabrina Stark at the moment, who's star is rising very fast! They were also performing at The Hague Jazz and while Robert is waiting for his new De Gier Elevation to be finished he played another one of our latest Elevations during the show.
Maybe you recognise our De Gier 'Leopard' - with our own new prototype preamp! See you next week! [22.May.2009] Just a quick notice before we head off to The Hague for The Hague Jazz! We will be closed today (Friday, 22nd) and tomorrow (Saturday, 23rd)! Visit us on the first floor of the World Forum building... You can't miss us! Oh, and did you know Bob Ross is building a bass? Check this out, right from Schiedam:
See you next week with footage from The Hague Jazz! [13.May.2009] Next week, 22nd & 23rd of May, we are at The Hague Jazz and we're bringing our instruments! Visit our booth at the 1st floor of the World Forum... Good music and beautiful instruments all in a perfect location in The Hague/Den Haag. If you've never heard of The Hague Jazz before, download an overview of the artists that are coming to perform this year right here (PDF file) or visit their website: The Hague Jazz.com. Featuring artist like: George Duke, Yellowjackets, Kyteman's HipHop Orkest, Sabrina Starke, Dave Holland Quintet, Trijntje Oosterhuis, Rod Mckuen, De Dijk, Hugh Masekela and lot's of others it's going to be a feast for the ears! We finally have them! The new 210MNT cabinets from Vanderkley Amplification..! You're looking at two 2*10" cabinets with a 1" compression driver with horn. You can come by our shop for a try to let these beauties work!
Not much to say this week other than we still 'pretty' busy with getting all orders ready in time. But to make sure you didn't visit for nothing, here's a cool picture of the 5 string Origin Sunburst we made for our friends at Musik-Schmidt in Frankfurt, Germany:
Thanks for reading..! See you next week! [01.May.2009] It was a bizar "Koninginnedag" yesterday. Our thoughts and prayers go out to the victims, and their family, of yesterdays strange events... [29.April.2009] These last few weeks have been extremely busy and we've been working hard to keep everything in order and make sure that all the work is still done at the highest possible level. At this point the waiting list for a new De Gier guitar or bass is approximately a half year. For setups, customising and repairs we're slowly shrinking the waiting list from up to four weeks to two-three depending on the amount of work! Which is a good thing because we've been asking a lot of patience of some of our faithful customers... Having said that, I have a couple of pictures for you this week of some of the orders we're working on right now...
An Origin Sunburst, 5 string, is waiting for the final buffing stages before final assembly and setup. Here's an Elevation with a beautiful quilted maple top..! There's someone really anxious of seeing this bass get finished.. :)
And a close up of the beautiful flames on a body for a lefthanded Reflection in the rough. The diagonal lines you can see in the picture are from rough sanding the top so it's nice and straight/leveled. Happy Koninginnedag tomorrow to all our Dutch readers! [22.April.2009] Did you enjoy the music last week? Just scroll down a bit if you've missed it.. And if this is your first visit, grab something to drink, relax, scroll all the way down and enjoy! This week we have finished a couple of beautiful new basses, an Elevation and an Origin! They will soon go to Bass Connection in Hilversum. So if you're in the neighbourhood, pass by Edwin's shop and give them a try! Make sure to compare them with any other high-end bass in his shop and you'll know what we stand for...
Also I can tell you that there are a number of exciting things ready to take place here at De Gier Guitars & Basses..! Stay tuned to this page the coming weeks as it will unfold in the (very) near future! See you next week! [15.April.2009] I have to start this week by making a BIG apology
to all our faithful readers... It was so busy last week I simply didn't
have time to write a newsitem for you. Not so long ago we made a beautiful six string bass guitar and someone fell in love with it, this persons name is Ronle Rouse. He plays in several bands, but we will highlight one for you: Nanda Akkerman - check out her YouTube page right here..! She also has a new EP out called "High Heels"... Okay, okay, for all you reggae lovers.. He also did a tour with Richie Spice from Jamaica and will do a theatertour with the Rootsriders, Tribute 2 Bob Marley. This tour will start in september this year and will also support a good cause! And some music for you all to enjoy: [April.1.2009] This week we have a preview of a real-life soap happening at De Gier Guitars & Basses. Every week we have a guitar builders course and we have a camera following the ins and outs of these days. Here's the first preview of it (apologies to all our international readers, it's in dutch only): [March.25.2009] Check out this cool video of the studiorecording of the Vincenzo Maurogiovanni trio playing 'Ana Maria' (W.Shorter)... They will release their new album soon!
[March.18.2009] We will have to keep it short this week.. Business is going crazy here at De Gier Guitars & Basses! There's a big pile of work just waiting to get done. But to make sure you have something to look at I will post a beautiful shot of the De Gier Authority, our latest prototype of the new guitar model..! Let us know what you think. Make sure you have a napkin closeby:
[March.11.2009] This week I give you, De Gier Elevation!
(if you're on a slow connection it might take a little longer...) [March.04.2009] Spring is in the air, birds are singing their
heart out, U2 has launched their new album and De Gier Guitars
& Basses is finishing up three new Elevations! Already 2009 is
a great year and it's getting better as we speak... Let's
waste no more words and let you in on the latest look of a very
special Elevation for a very special member of the De Gier family: Well, there you go... Mahogany body, three piece rock Maple neck, reinforced with graphite rods, African Blackwood fingerboard and the top of the body and the headstock are finished with beautiful, extremely figured spalted Maple. To finish it off we put knobs on it made of spalted Maple as well! Next week we will show you another Elevation as well as this one completely finished! [February.25.2009] Let me introduce you this week to a new brand of guitar ánd bass DIY effect kits: Moody Sounds. These kits are what you are looking for if you're chasing after your unique sound and style. These kits come from Sweden and consist of the highest quality parts. Instructions are very clear and the parts are already sorted and labeled, so no hard time figuring out all the resistors, capacitors, etc... Check out the Moody Sounds YouTube channel for videos, how-to's and samples. This week we're finishing the top coat of the Elevations I showed you last week. These basses will be ready for final assembly pretty soon, so don't take your eyes of this space as there will be limited time to try these babies as they will fly out very quickly once they are finished... See you next week... [February.18.2009] Hello and good morning to you all..! First off thank you for visiting our website to check out what's happening at De Gier Guitars & Basses. This week Sander is in the finishing process of
three new Elevations and we're still not getting used to the beauty of
these basses! You've seen these beauties before but I've made a few
quick pictures of how they look after a couple of coats of filler. The
first one you see below is a five string Elevation, body wood is
Abachi,
something extraordinary..! It sounds killer but weighs so little you'd
think it's hollow! It has a yellowish colour and smells
enormously when it's processed, but it's very much worth it. The sound
of this bass is going to hold more tone than you can handle..!
And here is another De Gier Elevation... This five string Elevation features an Alder body, Buckey Burl top. No more words, a picture says more than... you know what I mean.
Need I say more? [February.11.2009] This week I feel obligated to tell you that the
waiting list for a new De Gier bass, or guitar is growing pretty
rapidly..! More and more musicians are finding their way to our shop
and discover the beauty and craftmanship of a De Gier instrument. We
will send out a newsletter this week so keep an eye on your mailbox! We
have some interesting things to tell you. If you haven't received
anything by the end of the week let us know! We'll check if something
has gone wrong. And just for fun, here's a picture of one of our latest six string Origins:
Till next week..! [February.3.2009] As some of you already know we build guitars and
basses... (seriously? :-) ) As you've probably seen the pictures of last week,
you will know there
are three new Elevations being prepared for this journey. If you read
this and something inside you is stirring you might want to take the
opportunity to let us know... We can give you a notice once these
beauties are finished so you can come by and see if you are up to the
challenge! [January.28.2009] The prototype has gone through a couple of
changes... We've replaced the knob on the tone control, all three knobs
are the same now.. We have also placed another set of pickups
because we felt the first set (Bare Knuckle VHII & Mule) we'd
put in were a bit to modern for our taste in combination with this
guitar. At the moment Sander is working on three new Elevations, which are looking beautiful! Allow me to give you a small preview of this triplet:
Aren't they gorgeous..?
And who said you couldn't use the piece with the most flames on the back?
As we posted two weeks ago about the new prototype being in it's final stages, I now have some footage for you of what it looks at this point... We're working hard to get it finished this week, but since it is very busy we can't promise you anything. Here it is: s
Nickel hardware, Bare Knuckle pickups, hmmm... I
think we'll have to finish it soon! :) Besides that I can't tell you more than that it's pretty busy and there's a lot of work to be done. We'll see you next week! [January.07.2009] Well, I hope you all had a great end of last year
and we wish you all the best for this coming year, 2009! We're excited
about it because there's a lot of good things just right around
the corner..! Well, have to get back to work... Untill next week! Oh, almost forgot. One of our customers, Peter van Gestel from The Memphis Maniacs, had a show in Paradiso and send us this picture made by photographer Raoul Kramer - Raoulphotography.com:
[December.24.2008] A Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to all of you! We want to take the opportunity to thank you all! You are the ones who make this possible and we just want you to know we appreciate it..! We're looking forward to 2009 as it's going to break any record we ever had at De Gier Guitars & Basses! This is also our last news item for the year of 2008... The shop only closes during Christmas and on new year's day. Never thought we could say it, but: See you next year! [December.17.2008] You'd need a big tree this year to put your DeGier
bassguitar under.
But hey, you don't need a tree if you want a DeGier bass... Stock is going extremely fast on these babies..!
Make it fast or have yourself put on the waiting list...
From a rainy Schiedam, it's time to let you know
that if you're looking
to order a De Gier anytime soon you'd better make it fast..! Time will
tell that the waiting list will grow substantially! It is now around
two months before a bass or guitar would be ready, I can't tell you how
much longer it will be in the very near future... [December.03.2008] So it's the first newsitem in the last month of the great 2008! I hope you enjoyed the flying car last week? :-) This week we wanted to remind you of the clinic that will be held in our shop this Saturday! Starting at 13.00hr, 6 December 2008, Vincenzo Maurogiovanni is coming to tremble our foundation..! He will show and explain his techniques and will teach you all the ins and outs. Don't forget to bring your own bass as there will be a lot of opportunity to excercise the shown techniques. Make sure to be on time or you'll have to sit all the way in the back... And again we will show you an amazing bass guitar you'll probably know already... Can you recall a certain bronze bass we have in stock? I'm certain we will not be able to hold on to it as long as we would like to because this bass is a killer bass! Well to be honest, we already knew this is a killer bass, but now it's finish is killing us... What we've done is work up the bronze, which is actual bronze, with acid. We've used.. Sorry, no more words. Check this out! (beware, large pictures, might take a little longer to load)
See you next week! Thanks for looking..! [November.25.2008] And already another week has passed... Time goes so extremely fast these days we can hardly imagine how fast it is! I remember being a small kid and telling the world that in the year 2000 cars would be flying in stead of driving over the road. No more traffic jams. Well, being it is almost 2009 it appears I wasn't completely wrong... And we at De Gier Guitars & Basses are
also keeping ourselves up to date with the latest technologies as we
are now in the process of testing UV-curing finish.
Pretty exciting, because it will mean we can finish a guitar finish within two days in stead of three weeks..! [November.20.2008] I'm sorry, I couldn't help but to show you the
finished look of the burst that's on the new guitar right now.. It's
just finished!
Have you written 6 December already in you calendar? Make sure you do because it promises to be a great afternoon with Vincenzo Maurogiovanni, Vanderkley Amps & De Gier Guitars altogether here in Schiedam! If you want to improve on your bass skills you absolutely don't want to miss this... And now, my dear friends, it's time for some wow's, oooh's and aahh's... check this out... Our latest prototype:
It will be done in a couple of weeks, it's hanging in the spraybooth at the moment just waiting to be finished. Lightweight mahogany body, flame maple top, even for a prototype. Although we noticed a small knot in the wood that was invisible to the eye when selecting the wood for the top. You can see it on the picture on the left. We're glad it's 'just' a prototype.. :) This one has an African Blackwood fingerboard and two-piece mahogany neck by the way. You can expect a short demovideo of this one maybe even before Christmas..! See you next week! ciao! [November.12.2008] Did you know that we are starting with a new
course? A
build-your-own-guitar course? If you're interested send us an email at
the special address: cursus'at'degiergitaarbouw.nl (for spam protection
we've removed the '@' sign, replace 'at' with it) Also something to write down in your agenda is Saturday the 6th of December 2008! Vincenzo Maurogiovanni will come to our shop to give a clinic on our latest six string Elevation through Vanderkley Amps! Stay sharp because our newsletter is on it's way...That's it for now. Have to get back to work because it's pretty busy! :) Thanks for reading..! [November.05.2008] Hi again! First of all thank you for taking a moment of your precious time to pay a visit to our news section and read about what's going on at De Gier Guitars..! Life would be very boring without all of you who make this possible, so once again a BIG thank you! This week we have a short demo video of Elisa Krijgsman who came by our shop to pick up his custom ordered De Gier Reflection. This guitar will show you how versatile a Reflection can be! It has a set of Bare Knuckle NailBomb pickups, LR Baggs piezo Tremolo with Control-X preamp, Grover locking tuners. A Mahogany body with a beautiful quilted maple top. The neck is made of the finest rock maple with a nice African Blackwood fingerboard. Enough talk, here's the video: |
